Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients
- 1 medium baked sweet potato (about 7 ounces, or 1 heaping cup mashed)
- 1 pound ground turkey (93% lean)
- 1 large egg
- 2 tablespoons dried onion flakes
- 1 teaspoon marjoram
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
For the Glaze
- 6 tablespoons ketchup (divided; for Whole30 use sugar-free ketchup such as Primal Kitchen)
- 1 1/2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) and allow it to preheat fully to ensure even baking.
- Prepare sweet potato: Remove the skin from the baked sweet potato and mash the flesh in a large mixing bowl until smooth.
- Combine meatloaf mixture: Add the ground turkey, egg, dried onion flakes, 1/4 cup of ketchup, marjoram, and kosher salt to the mashed sweet potato. Mix thoroughly using a fork or your hands until all ingredients are well incorporated.
- Mix glaze: In a separate small bowl, combine the remaining 2 tablespoons of ketchup with Worcestershire sauce and stir to create the topping glaze.
- Shape and top: Form the meat mixture into a loaf shape and place it on a baking sheet. Evenly spoon the ketchup and Worcestershire glaze over the top of the loaf.
- Bake the meatloaf: Bake uncovered in the preheated oven for 55 minutes until the internal temperature reaches 165°F and the surface is glazed and slightly caramelized.
- Rest and serve: Remove the meatloaf from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes to allow juices to redistribute before slicing and serving.
Notes
- If you don’t have leftover baked sweet potatoes, you can bake the sweet potato in the oven or air fryer, but microwaving is the quickest method.
- To microwave the sweet potato, pierce it several times with a fork, wrap in a paper towel, and microwave on high for 4 to 6 minutes until soft. Add additional time if needed.
- Using sugar-free ketchup like Primal Kitchen makes this recipe Whole30 compliant.
- Letting the meatloaf rest before slicing ensures it stays moist and slices cleanly.
