Description

Create festive and spooky Halloween pretzels coated in rich chocolate and decorated with creative candy details. This recipe features a variety of easy-to-make Halloween-themed pretzel treats including spooky owls, ghosts, mummies, and wands that are perfect for parties or festive snacking.

Ingredients

Scale

Chocolate Coatings

  • 16 oz milk or semi-sweet chocolate, melted
  • 8 oz high-quality white chocolate, melted

Pretzels

  • 16 large pretzel twists
  • 8 pretzel rods

Decorations

  • Oreos
  • Candy eyes
  • Melted chocolate
  • Melted white chocolate
  • Chocolate candy melts
  • Black licorice (cut into 1 inch pieces)
  • Fall M&M’s
  • Black or grey sanding sugar (optional)
  • Gold star sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Spooky Owls: Dip each pretzel twist into the melted milk or semi-sweet chocolate and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Split an Oreo cookie in half and place halves on the pretzels as eyes. Freeze the pretzels for 10 minutes until the chocolate is set. Then, add a small dot of melted chocolate to the center of each Oreo half and attach candy eyes. Drizzle a line of melted chocolate above the eyes to form eyebrows and attach two 1-inch licorice pieces to each eye to mimic feathers. Next, place a dot of melted chocolate between the Oreo halves and insert an M&M for the nose. Optionally, sprinkle lightly with black or grey sanding sugar. Return to the freezer for 10 minutes to fully set.
  2. Create the Spooky Ghosts: Dip each pretzel twist into the melted white chocolate and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Press two chocolate candy melts into the white chocolate coating to form eyes. Freeze for 10 minutes to set.
  3. Make the Spooky Mummies: Dip pretzel twists into melted white chocolate and place on parchment-lined baking sheet. Fill in three holes in each pretzel by drizzling melted white chocolate inside to imitate mummy wrappings. Attach two candy eyes on each pretzel. Freeze for 10 minutes to set completely.
  4. Assemble the Spooky Wands: Dip each pretzel rod into melted milk or semi-sweet chocolate and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Freeze for 10 minutes to set the base layer. Then, drizzle melted chocolate up and down the pretzel rods and sprinkle with gold star decorations. Freeze for another 10 minutes to fully set and finish.

Notes

  • Use high-quality chocolate for the best taste and easier melting.
  • Freeze pretzels between decorating steps to help the chocolate set firmly and prevent sliding decorations.
  • Black or grey sanding sugar adds extra spooky texture but is optional.
  • You can customize the decorations according to your preference or holiday theme.
  • Ensure pretzels are fully dry and free from moisture before coating to avoid chocolate seizing or melting issues.
