Description

Tender and flavorful slow cooker BBQ baby back ribs that are fall-off-the-bone delicious. These ribs are seasoned with a homemade dry rub, cooked low and slow in the crockpot, then finished with a caramelized BBQ sauce glaze.

Ingredients

Units Scale

Dry Rub:

  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 2 teaspoons Kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper

Other Ingredients:

  • 3 pounds baby back pork ribs (also known as pork loin back ribs)
  • 1/2 yellow onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup water
  • Your favorite BBQ sauce (about 1 cup or to taste)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Ribs: Remove the membrane from the back of the ribs. Pat dry with paper towels.
  2. Season the Ribs: Mix dry rub ingredients and rub all over the ribs.
  3. Cook in the Slow Cooker: Place ribs in the slow cooker with onions, garlic, and water. Cook on low for 6 hours.
  4. Broil the Ribs: Brush ribs with BBQ sauce and broil for 2-4 minutes until caramelized.
  5. Serve: Enjoy with additional BBQ sauce and onions if desired.

Notes

  • Baby back ribs are recommended for this recipe for their leaner profile and ideal cooking time.
  • St. Louis style ribs and spare ribs are alternative options but require adjustments in cooking time and slow cooker size.
  • Removing the membrane from the ribs before cooking ensures better flavor penetration.
  • Use a 6-quart slow cooker for a 3-4 pound rack of ribs for best results.
  • Prep the dry rub in advance for convenience.
  • Leftover ribs can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
