Description

These Onion Ring Chips are a crispy and flavorful snack that’s easy to make with just a few simple ingredients. Thinly sliced onions are layered over a bed of shredded Parmesan cheese and baked until golden brown and crispy. Perfect for snacking or as a tasty side dish.

Ingredients

Units Scale

Onion Ring Chips:

  • 4 small onions, peeled and sliced to 1/4 inch thickness
  • 8 ounces shredded Parmesan Cheese (you can use 6-7 ounces)
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • cooking oil spray

Optional dips:

  • Ranch
  • Ketchup
  • Tzatziki

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 400F and line a sheet pan with parchment paper.
  2. Slice the onions: Using a Mandolin slicer, slice the small onions to 1/4 inch thickness.
  3. Layer the ingredients: Spread the shredded Parmesan cheese on the prepared sheet pan, then layer the sliced onions over the cheese.
  4. Season and bake: Spray with cooking oil, sprinkle with smoked paprika, onion powder, and garlic powder. Bake for 18-20 minutes until golden brown.
  5. Cool and serve: Allow to cool for 10 minutes to harden, then cut into squares. Serve with your favorite dip.

Notes

  • Ideal to use small to medium-sized onions for best results.
  • Avoid burning the cheese to prevent a bitter taste; check at 16 minutes due to varying oven temperatures.
  • Slice onions thinly to avoid sogginess; a mandolin slicer or sharp knife works well.
  • If cooking oil spray is unavailable, lightly brush onions with olive or avocado oil.
  • Base recipe requires only onions and Parmesan cheese; additional seasonings enhance flavor.
