Ingredients

Units Scale

Meat

  • 1 lb. Ground beef

Vegetables

  • 1 lb. Sliced mushrooms
  • 2 tsp. Minced garlic
  • 2 Tbsp. Chopped fresh parsley

Dairy

  • 2 Tbsp. Unsalted butter
  • 6 oz. Cream cheese, softened
  • Parmesan cheese for garnish

Others

  • 3 Large eggs
  • 1 tsp. Seasoning salt
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit to prepare for baking the casserole.
  2. Brown the ground beef: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned, seasoning with salt and pepper to taste. Drain excess fat and set the beef aside.
  3. Sauté the mushrooms: Melt 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced mushrooms and cook until they become tender.
  4. Add seasonings to mushrooms: Mix in the minced garlic, seasoning salt, chopped fresh parsley, and pepper to taste. Sauté everything together for another minute to combine flavors.
  5. Prepare cream cheese sauce: Using a food processor or blender, blend the softened cream cheese with the eggs until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
  6. Assemble the bake: Pour the cream cheese sauce over the browned ground beef and mix gently. Transfer this mixture to the bottom of a well-greased 9×9 baking dish.
  7. Add mushroom topping: Spoon the sautéed mushrooms evenly over the meat and cheese mixture in the baking dish.
  8. Bake the casserole: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 20 minutes until set and heated through.
  9. Garnish and serve: Remove from oven and sprinkle Parmesan cheese over the top before serving. Enjoy this delicious and hearty bake warm.

Notes

  • Make sure to soften the cream cheese before blending to ensure a smooth sauce.
  • Drain the excess fat well from the browned ground beef to keep the bake from being too greasy.
  • Feel free to substitute fresh herbs like thyme or rosemary for parsley to vary the flavor.
  • For a lower-fat version, use reduced-fat cream cheese and lean ground beef.
