Ingredients
Scale
Dry Ingredients
- 4 cups Corn Chex
- 4 cups Wheat Chex
- 2 cups cinnamon Teddy Grahams
Wet Ingredients
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
- 6 Tbsp. light brown sugar
- 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 1 tsp. kosher salt
- 1 tsp. pure vanilla extract
Mix-Ins
- 2 cups candy corn and/or candy pumpkins
- 2 cups chocolate-covered pretzels
- 2 cups salted sweet potato chips (such as Terra)
- 1 cup Reese’s pieces
Instructions
- Preheat and Combine Dry Ingredients: Preheat your oven to 250°F (120°C). In a large bowl, combine the Corn Chex, Wheat Chex, and cinnamon Teddy Grahams to create the base of your mix.
- Mix Wet Ingredients: In a small bowl, whisk together the melted unsalted butter, light brown sugar, ground cinnamon, kosher salt, and pure vanilla extract until smooth and well combined.
- Coat the Mix: Drizzle about one-third of the butter mixture over the dry cereal mixture. Toss well to evenly coat all pieces. Repeat this step two more times, drizzling the remaining butter mixture in portions and tossing each time to ensure every piece is fully coated.
- Spread on Baking Sheets: Divide the coated Chex mixture evenly between two unlined rimmed baking sheets. Spread the mixture out in an even layer for optimal baking.
- Bake and Toss: Bake the mix in the preheated oven, tossing it every 15 minutes to prevent burning and ensure even toasting. Continue baking for 30 to 45 minutes, or until the mix is toasted and crisp throughout.
- Cooling: Remove the baking sheets from the oven and let the Chex Mix cool completely on the sheets. Cooling helps to set the coating and crisp up the mix.
- Add Mix-Ins: Once cooled, transfer the Chex Mix back to a large bowl. Gently fold in the candy corn (and/or candy pumpkins), chocolate-covered pretzels, salted sweet potato chips, and Reese’s pieces to distribute them evenly.
- Storage and Serving: Serve immediately or store the Halloween Chex Mix in an airtight container at room temperature. It can be made up to 2 weeks in advance, maintaining its crunchy texture and festive flavor.
Notes
- Make sure to toss the mix every 15 minutes during baking to avoid burning and ensure even crispness.
- For best results, use unlined rimmed baking sheets to allow proper airflow and even baking.
- You can customize the candy mix-ins to your preference or seasonal availability.
- Store in an airtight container to keep the mix fresh and crunchy.
- This mix is perfect for Halloween parties, snack trays, or gift bags.
