Description
Create a fun and spooky Frankenstein-themed avocado toast perfect for Halloween or any playful breakfast. This recipe combines creamy mashed avocado, crispy toasted bread, and decorative nori seaweed and olives to craft a unique, visually appealing snack that’s as tasty as it is creative.
Ingredients
Scale
For the Toast
- 2 slices bread for toasting
For the Decoration
- 1 sheet nori (seaweed used for sushi)
- 1 pitted black olive (optional for eyes; can also use pre-sliced)
For the Avocado Spread
- ½ medium avocado or more to taste
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- Juice from about 1-2 wedges of lemon or lime
Instructions
- Prepare the Nori: Place your sheet of nori on a cutting board. Identify the flat side of the bread that will be the top of Frankenstein’s head and use it as a guide to cut the nori into hair, mouth, nose, and eyes shapes. Hair should have a flat top with triangular bottoms matching the bread’s top edge; mouth is a long thin strip with shorter crosshatch strips; nose a triangle or flat line; eyes can be triangles or use sliced olives.
- Toast the Bread: Toast the bread slices until they are golden brown and crisp enough to hold the toppings without becoming soggy.
- Mash the Avocado: In a small bowl, mash the avocado thoroughly. Add salt and lemon or lime juice to taste, mixing well to create a smooth, seasoned spread.
- Assemble the Toast: Spread the mashed avocado evenly over each toasted bread slice. Position them so the flat ‘top of the head’ is at the top. Then decorate the face by arranging the cut nori pieces and optional olive slices to mimic Frankenstein’s head and facial features.
Notes
- Use ripe but firm avocado for best texture and easy mashing.
- If you prefer, use pre-sliced olives to save time when making the eyes.
- Adjust salt and lemon juice to your taste preference for the avocado spread.
- Serve immediately after assembling to prevent the toast from becoming soggy.
- This recipe makes a fun, kid-friendly snack or Halloween breakfast.
