Description

Dirt Pudding is a fun and delicious layered dessert featuring crushed Oreos mixed with buttery crumbs, creamy vanilla pudding blended with cream cheese and whipped topping, all topped with gummy worms for a playful touch. This no-bake treat is perfect for parties and family gatherings, combining smooth textures and crunchy cookie crumbs to mimic ‘dirt’ in a whimsical presentation.

Ingredients

Scale

Oreos and Topping

  • 18 – 19 oz. Oreos (regular, not Double Stuf)
  • 6 Tablespoons salted butter (melted)
  • Gummy worms (optional)

Pudding Mixture

  • 3 1/2 cups milk (whole or 2%)
  • 2 boxes instant French vanilla pudding (3.4 oz each)
  • 8 oz. cream cheese (softened to room temperature)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 12 ounces whipped topping (thawed)

Instructions

  1. Crush Oreos: Place Oreos in a large ziplock bag and seal. Use a rolling pin to crush the Oreos into a mix of larger and smaller crumbs. Pour melted butter into the bag and shake to combine. Alternatively, use a food processor to crush the Oreos. Set aside.
  2. Prepare Pudding: Whisk the milk and instant French vanilla pudding mix together in a bowl until starting to thicken, about 2 minutes. Set aside.
  3. Make Cream Cheese Mixture: Place cream cheese and powdered sugar in the bowl of an electric mixer and beat on medium-high speed until smooth and lump-free.
  4. Combine Mixtures: Fold the pudding mixture into the cream cheese mixture, beating on low speed until well combined. Gently stir in the whipped topping.
  5. Layer the Dessert: If using a large pail (8 inches or taller), place the whipped topping lid upside down at the bottom to shorten the height. Layer pudding at the bottom, then a layer of the Oreo crumb mixture. Repeat layers until all pudding and Oreos are used, ending with a layer of Oreos on top. Arrange gummy worms on top if desired.
  6. Chill: Refrigerate the assembled pudding for at least 4 hours or overnight to allow it to set and flavors to meld.

Notes

  • We prefer using regular Oreos, not Double Stuf. Use one and a half standard packages if family size is unavailable.
  • You can use any flavor of pudding, but French vanilla is preferred. If using cook-and-serve pudding, cook and cool completely before proceeding.
  • Dirt Pudding can be layered in a 9 x 13 inch pan for a Dirt Cake or served in trifle bowls or individual cups.
  • The dessert keeps covered in the fridge for about 3 days; after that, Oreos may become too mushy.
