Base Ingredient
- 1 cup (256g) whole milk small curd cottage cheese (4% milkfat, high protein)
Optional Seasonings
- Seasonings of your choice (e.g., garlic powder, paprika, black pepper, chili flakes)
- Grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. Lightly spray the parchment paper with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
- Prepare Cottage Cheese: Drain any excess liquid from the cottage cheese if desired to ensure the chips crisp well.
- Scoop and Flatten: Using a 1-tablespoon cookie scoop, place mounds of cottage cheese evenly spaced about 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheet. Flatten each mound with the back of a metal spoon to about 1/4 inch thickness for even cooking.
- Season: Sprinkle your choice of seasonings over the flattened cottage cheese mounds. Optionally, add grated Parmesan for added flavor and crispiness.
- Bake: Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 40 to 50 minutes. Start checking the chips at 20 minutes; they are done when edges turn dark brown and surfaces are golden brown and crispy.
- Cool: Remove the chips from the oven and allow them to cool completely on the baking sheet. This cooling process helps them crisp up further.
- Microwave Method (Alternative): Line a microwave-safe plate with parchment paper. Drain excess liquid from the cottage cheese if desired, then spread an even layer of cottage cheese on the plate. Season as preferred. Microwave for 2 to 3 minutes, checking and repeating as necessary until chips are crispy. Cool before serving.
Notes
- You can customize the chips with a variety of seasonings such as smoked paprika, garlic powder, or Italian herbs to suit your taste.
- Draining excess liquid from the cottage cheese helps achieve a crispier texture.
- These chips are best served fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
- The microwave method is quicker but may yield less uniformly crispy chips compared to baking.
- Use parchment paper and cooking spray to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
