Description

Create a festive and eye-catching Christmas Donut Tree perfect for holiday celebrations. This delightful treat features donut holes arranged on a Styrofoam cone, decorated with fresh rosemary sprigs, pomegranate arils, and a dusting of powdered sugar, making it a fun and edible centerpiece.

Ingredients

Scale

Donut Tree Base

  • 80-90 Donut Holes (powdered sugar or sour cream)
  • 90 Toothpicks
  • 1 (12 inch) Styrofoam Cone
  • Plastic Wrap (for wrapping the cone)

Decorations

  • Fresh Rosemary Sprigs (for greenery)
  • 1/4 Cup Pomegranate Arils
  • 1/2 Cup Powdered Sugar (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cone: Wrap the 12-inch Styrofoam cone in two layers of plastic wrap to protect it and provide a clean surface for assembling the donut holes.
  2. Start the Base Layer: Stand the cone upright. Insert a toothpick halfway into the cone near the base, ensuring it is secure.
  3. Add Donut Holes: Gently push a donut hole onto the toothpick so it sits firmly. Be sure the donut hole aligns with the bottom of the cone for an even base.
  4. Continue Around the Base: Place another toothpick close to the first but leave some space between them. Add another donut hole. Continue placing toothpicks and donut holes around the cone’s base in a straight line until the circle is complete and meets the first donut hole.
  5. Build Upwards: For subsequent rows, position the donut holes so they tuck between the previous row’s donut holes, filling gaps and creating a solid, even tree shape.
  6. Fill Any Gaps: Once the cone is fully covered with donut holes, trim small pieces of fresh rosemary sprigs and insert them into any spaces to add greenery and texture resembling pine needles.
  7. Decorate with Pomegranate: Scatter pomegranate arils evenly throughout the tree for festive color and a pop of flavor.
  8. Finish with Powdered Sugar: Lightly dust the entire donut tree with powdered sugar to give the appearance of snow and complete the festive look.

Notes

  • Use donut holes that are similar in size for a uniform appearance.
  • The styrofoam cone can be substituted with a thick cardboard cone if desired.
  • Optional: Use flavored donut holes like cinnamon sugar or chocolate for variety.
  • To keep donut holes fresh, assemble close to serving time and store covered at room temperature.
  • For additional decoration, consider edible glitter or small candy pieces.
